Is it Possible for Christian Schools to Grow in a Recession? The answer should be a resounding ~Yes! "But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you." Matthew 6:33 In light of our nation's economic times and upcoming changes in leadership, the Great Commission mandate to make disciples by Christian schools is extremely relevant. Christian schools cannot wait idly for difficult times to pass. In a recent report, Crown Financial Ministries stated that America has had 11 recessions since 1930 with the average recession lasting 10 months and our two worst recessions lasting 16 months. Yet, Christian schools must never recede in their calling to train up students/disciples that passionately love Christ with the wisdom of a Biblical worldview and academic excellence. Christian schools that blame the economy for poor results must not be taken captive by such factors. Rather, we have been given the Biblical imperative to take every thought captive and to make it obedient to Christ. By God's grace and provisions, we have moved on from the terrorist attacks of 2001 and the "tanking" of the economy then. The economy is no excuse for a weak Christian school ministry. Such schools may very well be "Christian" schools that have not been fully seeking the heart and mind of God. Furthermore, our Almighty God, who in actuality owns everything, has never experienced a recession nor is He currently in one. He still endows us with His spiritual gifts of teaching, leadership, administration, giving etc., when we obey Him. Today, Christian schools must engage in and with visionary leadership that not only practices good stewardship now but is building upon a foundation that will fully reach and serve even more students in the future. Christian schools that thrive are never passive but always active despite the economic times. As we intently seek God's will and godly wisdom, we will then have Christian schools that are not receding in their calling, visions and missions. What Christian schools need in an economic downturn is to serve their students, families and community. By God's grace, many Christian schools have even seen an increase in enrollment this school year. This most likely can be attributed to doing things God's way and not worrying about the future. Rather, this may very well be one of the most exciting times facing Christian school leaders. The building up of excellent Christian schools that actively seek after the heart and mind of God is both exciting and demanding work. The Imago Dei Group desires to partner with your school in these exciting times. We are offering your school an extremely cost effective method of school consulting/marketing for enrollment (see sidebar). Essentially, Christian school consulting is the short term hiring of wise counsel in an experienced, trained and gifted school leader. Furthermore, such short term counsel may only consist of a day or two with your school leaders gleaning a vast array of insights and wisdom that otherwise would be overlooked. Think of it as hiring a second administrator for a short term basis where you get to drain them of all their experiences, knowledge of best practices and cutting edge insights to grow your school at such a time as this.
