July for Christian schools is a month of transition. Either you are closing out a fiscal and academic year or have just embarked on the new fiscal and academic year. The upcoming school year always offers the freshness of a new start and clean slate. Much as spring training is to baseball, so the latter summer months are to a Christian school prior to its opening day.
By God's grace, we are now on the recovery from the effects of an economic downturn that blindsided us and have much upside to look forward to during this school year. While God and His Great Commission have never been in a recession, Christian schools now more than ever need to accelerate as we once again have the opportunity and privilege to teach students to obey the truths of Christ in their minds, hearts and lives.
So is it in our individual lives as Christian leaders. We are now faced with the choices as to what would be the best stewardship of our time, lives and leadership this upcoming school year. Are we ready to take every thought captive and made obedient to the Lordship of Christ? Additionally, by taking our thoughts captive and engaging the upcoming school year with Christ-honoring proactive leadership, we may very well see the transformation of our schools back to thriving communities of spiritual and academic excellence. So while the past school year offered up many trials, we now need to "press on" after the heart and mind of God and the great things He has in store for our schools this upcoming year.
