Proactive or Reactive Leadership ~ What is Your Course of Action for this School Year? |
The freshness of a new start is excitedly anticipated with the first day of school. With Christian school leadership, we are also given a clean slate in our responsibilities and sacred callings as Christian school leaders. As such, our course of action and leadership for the upcoming year can either be reactionary or proactive. However, our experiences from last year witnessed too many Christian schools that suffered from reactionary leadership. Essentially, what was lost? Specifically, one year of effective and proactive leadership was lost in light of the Great Commission. Providentially, we also observed schools that remained proactive despite trying times and they are now reaping the fruits of that leadership harvest.
While there will always be the need to be somewhat reactionary over the unexpected, it is how we respond under the authority of Biblical truths that will define our leadership. Furthermore, the Great Commission does not entail that our schools merely exist day to day with the hope of finishing this upcoming school year with just some sense of order. We should never find ourselves in the position where we just want to get the school year over with and hope for better.
By God's grace, might it be possible to even finish the school year better than it starts? By His wisdom and His will along in concert with proactive and optimistic leadership, it is possible to sustain excitement and see growth throughout the entire school year. By the love and mercy of our resurrected Lord Jesus Christ, we have the privilege to serve Him and our school communities in the transforming of minds, hearts and lives in His absolute truths.
We would like to strongly urge and encourage you to engage the upcoming school year with Christ-honoring proactive leadership. By God's grace we may very well see the transformation of our schools return to thriving communities of spiritual and academic excellence. So while the 2008-2009 school year offered up many trials, we now need to "press on" after the heart and mind of God and the great things He has in store for our schools this upcoming year.
